Continuing Education Thank you for considering TSTC Marshall's continuing education offerings for non-credit education. You will find we offer a wide range of enrichment opportunities for learners of all ages. These courses are designed for the general public for leisure pursuit and for professionals interested in obtaining current information in their present occupations or to enhance their education to prepare for new careers. Continuing Education courses are open to interested persons without regard to eligibility for admission to college-credit programs. Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are provided as certification when the course meets the established criteria. Classes are offered days and evenings and range from 2 hours to one year. We do classes for small groups. We can even offer some classes one-on-one!! Online Training Ed2Go You can access over 300 courses through our online continuing education offerings provided by Ed2Go, one of the top providers of online education. Courses are offered in a short 6-week format. Courses are taught by expert instructors and you will engage with other students in the student discussion areas. New sessions start monthly in areas such as accounting, the arts, business, computers, computer certification, children and family, creative writing, database management, photography, grant writing, graphic design and multimedia, health care, wellness, personal enrichment, foreign languages, law, teaching and education,personal finance, sales and marketing and test prep for exams such as the GED, GMAT, SAT and ACT. The cost of each 6 week course is only $95. If you want more information about Ed2Go or JER please call (903) 923-3442 or email colleen.halupa@marshall.tstc.edu Continuing Education Campus Offerings TSTC Marshall Fall 2010 Continuing Education Offerings Introduction to Handguns for Women and Novices This course is for people who want to learn how to handle handguns and have no experience. Topics include safe handling and storage of handguns, understanding the different types of handguns, ammunition, stance and shooting fundamentals, and the legal requirements for carrying and using handguns in Texas. Students may bring their own handguns but they must be UNLOADED and will be checked and surrendered at the beginning of class and returned during stance exercises.
An additional live fire session can be scheduled on an individual basis at Green's Gun and Range in Marshall. Live fire session is an additional $25. Watch for our upcoming gun classes at TSTC: Gun Maintenance and Cleaning (Handgun, Rifle and Shotgun) in January 2011 Beginning Welding Course This course is for those who are interested in learning some basic welding techniques. This class is ideal for home owners, farmers and ranchers who want to be able to some of their own welding in the future. Students will be introduced to the different types of welding (MIG, TIG, Stick) as well as gas and electric methods. Course will include welding methods, principle and practice. Students will get hands-on experience in performing metal welds. Course will be held for 4 hours every other Saturday for 12 weeks. Course Cost : $250 plus $25.00 material fee Class will begin November 2010. Upcoming Winter 2011 Offerings Animal Husbandry January 2010 So You Think You Want To Own A Horse? This 3 hour short course will cover the basics of horse care and horsemanship. Topics covered will include nutrition, grooming, building relationships with your horse, and costs and time associated with horse ownership. Students will meet and interact with horses in this class. This course is open to children and adults of all ages. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult (only one fee required). Date: 20 January 2010 6-9 pm Cost: $25 Beginning Farrier Course Are you a horse owner? Would you like to be able to maintain your own horses' hooves to increase the time between farrier visits? If so, this course is for you. In this course you will learn the specifics of horse anatomy, building relationships with horses. selection of farrier tools, the use of rasps and trimmers, how to treat fungus and other foot disease, when to contact professional help, and how to maintain good posture and stance in your horse to prevent arthritis and lameness. Instructor will demonstrate proper farrier techniques. Class will meet on Thursday nights from 6-9 pm from February 3-March 10. Cost: $150.00 Beginning Farrier Laboratory Course As a follow up to our beginning farrier course, an individual laboratory course with TSTC's industry partner T&P Ranch will be set up so you can get practical experience. David Walsh, owner of T&P Ranch will arrange these individualized sessions. If you are interested in doing this as a follow-up to this class or on an individual basis, please contact David at (903) 926-2946. Industrial Basic Generator Maintenance This course will discuss the basics principles of home and commercial generators. Students will learn electrical principals, types of generators for home and commercial use, as well as generator components. This course is suited for the layperson that does not have a lot of background knowledge on these types of systems. Class will meet Tuesday nights from 6-9 pm for 6 weeks from February 1-March 8, 2011. Cost: $125 Intermediate Generator Maintenance This course will discuss how to read generator schematics for home and commercial generators. Students will also learn how to perform preventive maintenance and installation procedures. Students will travel within the Marshall area to learn how to perform maintenance on small generators. Prerequisite is the Basic Generator Course, or prior knowledge of electrical systems and components. Class will meet Tuesday night from 6-9 pm 14 March-April 4, 2011 Cost $85 Advanced Generator Maintenance This class is a one-on-one laboratory for students who want to learn to maintain, install and repair commercial generators. Students will be scheduled at a time that is mutually agreeable for the student and the instructor. This class is offered through a partnership between TSTC Marshall and the retired President of Gabel Equipment LLC, a New York based generator company. Individual sessions can be coordinated through TSTC Marshall. Please call (903) 923-3442 for more information. Cost will be based on the amount of instruction requested. A home/commercial "Generator Maintenance Technician" certificate will be awarded after completion of the Basic, Intermediate and Advanced courses. |
