Veterans' Benefits

Attention Veterans: GI Bill Emergency Checks

As a veteran of the armed services, you already know the value of technical experience and you understand that knowledge is power - power to adapt to changes - power to succeed.

Texas State Technical College Marshall is approved for all chapters of Veterans Educational Benefits. The application & certification for these benefits can be obtained through TSTC's Certification Officer in the Admissions & Records Office. The GI bill application packets are located in the Office of Admissions and Records or online at http://vabenefits.vba.va.gov/vonapp/instructions.asp.

When the Certification Officer receives an application, the original is mailed to the Veterans Administration, and a copy remains with the Certification Officer. A special Veteran's school file is then established for the student. It usually takes two months for the VA to process your paperwork, and you are not paid until you have been in school a month.

The Certification Officer's duty is to certify students for benefits after all paperwork is complete, and to report drops, withdrawals, and progress to the VA. The student will be certified each semester.

Reminders:

If you are the veteran, include a copy of your DD-214 or DD-2384, whichever applies.

Dependents must provide a copy of their birth certificate or marriage license. These documents must accompany the VA application package. Return to Admissions and Records for mailing to the Veteran Affairs Office in Muskogee, OK.

You must request an official transcript from any previously attended post secondary schools.

Please be aware that you are responsible for the payment of your courses. Your GI Bill benefits are paid after your first month of school attendance. This is contingent upon the time frame of the completion of your certification.

It is very important that you enroll in courses that are part of your chosen degree plan. The Admissions and Records office is only authorized to approve and certify courses that apply to your current degree plan.

In order to receive payment: Chapter 30 and Chapter 1606 veterans must complete enrollment verification each month on or after the last day of the month in order to receive payment for that month. Your enrollment verification can be verified on the VA website (WAVE)
